Essential Food Services

Our commitment is to ensure everyone in our care has access to nourishing meals.

Welcome Centre Shelter is dedicated to providing essential food services to support women and families accessing shelter. Here’s an overview of our comprehensive Food Services Program:

  • On-site Meal Provision: We offer on-site meals for over 100 women and families, including children attending school and adults working. Our commitment is to ensure everyone in our care has access to nourishing meals.
  • Balanced and Culturally Sensitive Menu: With a two-week rotational menu, we focus on providing balanced, diverse, and culturally sensitive nourishment. This approach reflects our dedication to meeting diverse dietary needs and creating a positive relationship with food.
  • Community Food Security Education: We strive to improve our clients’ relationship with food security through education. This includes a partnership with children’s programming to enhance food safety and promote healthy eating habits among children accessing shelter.
  • Client-Centered Food Bank: Operating a client-centred food bank, we serve households transitioning from shelter to permanent housing. This initiative assists in ensuring food security during the critical transition to housing stabilization.
  • Social Enterprise Opportunities: Looking ahead, we are exploring social enterprise opportunities to leverage our agency’s commercial kitchen. This aligns with our strategic planning for 2024-2026, aiming to enhance the sustainability and impact of our food services.
  • Success Metrics: The success of our Food Services Program is measured through budget adherence, client feedback, and our ability to meet the diverse dietary needs of those we serve. We continually strive to create a food environment that fosters health, well-being, and community.
