Exciting news to share! A School of Social Work postdoc wrote a paper in a major journal that was part of a national SSHRC-funded project, and the Centre was a site location for gathering research. Published in BMC Public Health (an open-access, peer-reviewed journal), the paper is titled “Navigating fragmented services: a gender-based violence (GBV) critical feminist analysis of women’s experiences engaging with health and social supports in three Canadian cities.”
If may toot our own horn, we are so proud of the work that the shelter is doing to increase the participation of the women we support in community-research partnerships. Our Executive Director, Lady Laforet, is a named co-author on a nationally based research project funded through SSHRC! The Centre is so far from a simple “hot and cot” mentality of shelter, and this research demonstrates how building an effective working relationship characterized by trust, non-judgment, and collaboration is crucial for service engagement and women’s overall well-being.
SSHRC- The Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada is a Canadian federal research-funding agency that promotes and supports post-secondary research and training in the humanities and social sciences.
We will keep this post brief so you can head to the link to read the full paper!
