Who We Are

The Welcome Centre Shelter, established in 1990 and in our 34th year of supporting women+ in the Windsor community, is dedicated to actively transitioning women+ and families out of homelessness through emergency shelter and peer-supported services. As the sole women+ and family shelter within the local emergency shelter system- we support over 1000 individuals annually within the shelter program, with nearly 40% of those individuals being kids and youth. Our mission is to actively transition women+ and families out of homelessness through emergency shelter and peer-supported services.

Why are we doing Door-to-Door fundraising?

We are hitting the pavement with our first-ever door-to-door campaign; this initiative, spanning a few months, aims to inspire our community to become Monthly Centre Key Holders. Our friendly team is going house to house in the hopes of not just growing sustainable giving but also building a community of donors who share our vision –

Every women+ and family supported out of homelessness; no exceptions.

The Welcome Centre Shelter is partnering with Globalfaces Direct, North America’s leading face-to-face fundraising service. Our representatives are extensively trained to effectively communicate about the essential work of the Welcome Centre Shelter, our fundraising priorities, and our programs. Our representatives knocking on your door will be wearing pink vests with our Welcome Centre Shelter logo on the front and back.

The Process

Monthly giving is not just an easy and convenient way to support the Welcome Centre Shelter; it’s a direct line to helping women and families in your community that need it the most. Your donations can be put to immediate use, ensuring we have the necessary resources to provide essential programs, services and support to those accessing shelter. Your contribution is invaluable and makes you an integral part of our mission.

As part of the signup process, fundraisers will call the call centre at 1-888-703-0651 to process donations. On the back of their badge, you can find this number: 1-647-776-2628 to call and verify the canvasser at your door. This verification process is in place not only to ensure your safety but also to instill confidence in your decision to support us, knowing that your contribution is going to the right place.

Benefitting YOU and US

  • Your recurring donations go directly to funding our program and services – This allows us to maintain and expand our services in harm reduction, community outreach, volunteer support, and peer engagement, ensuring that those in need receive consistent help and get that back into the community.
  • Your contributions are allocated to essential program supplies. This consistent funding ensures that our programs always have the materials they need to operate effectively, providing continuous support and resources to our clients.
  • Your donations are directed towards capital items, including repairs and maintenance of our client shelter units. This helps us maintain a safe and comfortable living environment for those we serve.
  • Your recurring donations cover unfunded administrative costs, allowing us to keep our operations running smoothly. This ensures that our programs are well-managed and that we can continue to deliver high-quality services without interruption.
  • Your recurring donations provide a stable and predictable source of income, allowing us to plan and budget more effectively. This financial stability helps us respond quickly to emerging needs and invest in long-term solutions for homelessness and poverty.
